Six Degrees Can Go a Long Way

If you've been around the net long, you might have heard of this thing called Six Degrees

What it is, is a database that lets you look up your friends (your first degree) -- if they're registered -- or invite them to register, and find out who they know (your second degree), and who their friends know, and so on, and so on, to the sixth degree and even beyond.

My friend up in Minnesota signed up today, after one of her mom's friends e-mailed her about it. She found out she could chat online with it, so she sent me an e-mail and asked if I'd sign up. I did (though I'd been asked once before, and wasn't interested at that time), and just for fun, I started entering names in the search engine, to see if anyone else I knew was listed there.

I entered Jev's last name, and lo and behold, his sister popped up in the list I got back. So I requested to be added to her list, and went on. I've found several more people I know online -- even a couple other journalers -- and have a growing circle of acquaintances. Jev signed up too, when I told him about it, and we've been having fun, looking up people to see who else is part of it.

Besides the friend who e-mailed me about it in the first place, I haven't found anyone else from my high school or grade school days. Maybe when we go to the reunion, we can see who all has e-mail addresses, and see if they are a part of this silly thing, too.

It's fun, it's free, and it's a good way to blow an evening when you're bored or don't feel like expending much mental energy. ;) That would be me... I'm so beat after the long day yesterday that I took a rather long nap today, and I'm still tired!
