Jev's out goofing off, and I'm spending late afternoon and early evening on the porch again. It was overcast earlier, windy and threatening to rain, but it was cool and pleasant out here, so I made my dinner and ate at the card table, where we do our crafts.
The storm broke during my meal, and after a few moments of listening to the raindrops beat against the window louvres, I realized that it was probably beating against my eastern bedroom window; and my eastern bedroom window was open! I threw my napkin over my plate to slow down the cats if they got any ideas, and dashed in to close the windows in Mom's room and mine. Things were a little damp, but hopefully nothing got damaged.
I came back -- the cats hadn't disturbed anything -- and as I finished my meal, the rain moved eastward, and the sun broke through behind me. It didn't take me long to make the association, and I got up and peeked out the door. Sure enough, we had a bright rainbow to the east!
I must have had it all together just then, because I rememered I had two or three frames left on the film in my camera, that I wanted to finish off. Another quick dash to my bedroom and back, and a pause to pull off my socks (I always run around in socks or slippers, unless it's really warm), and I was out the door, camera ready to go. I got three shots, and I'm hoping that last one turns out, because I realized I could skip over into the neighbor's drive and get a picture without any power lines.
Out in the rain, running through the freshly-mown lawn in my bare feet, I felt like a little kid, without a care in the world. Mom probably thinks I'm nuts, but it was great, and I don't care a bit what she may or may not think.
By time I got back inside, and dried off the camera, the sun was behind more clouds, and the rainbow was gone. The clouds have all rolled past now, and so has the rain. It's another gorgeous evening here in Missouri, and a nice ending for a stressful day.
The pictures are back... and here's the rainbow:
