Sleep Like a Log

April 30, 1999

I am soooooo tired! Today we did the last of the sorting for the yard sale (which will be in the morning), and early this evening, Mom's walking companion and her daughter came over to help us carry the stuff out to our driveway, so tomorrow all we have to do is set it up on tables. We did a little running around town, too, and so I'm just beat.

After everything was done and I'd had my dinner, I took a nice long soak and started reading Robert Heinlein's The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, and relaxing. I had doubts about being able to crawl out of the tub afterward because I was so tired and relaxed, but I made it, and I was just in time to hop online and talk to Jev for the evening.

He's going to head on out to Roanoke tomorrow and try to look around at apartments, since it's really getting close to that time. In two weeks, I'll be there with him, and that Saturday will be graduation day. It still doesn't seem real, though. I guess because it's been off in the hazy future for so terribly long now.

For now, he's up in his loft, falling asleep, and I can hear him breathe, since we're talking on netmeeting. It's so nice and relaxing, I can just close my eyes, and imagine I'm right there with him, cuddling up close to him, and his arm around me as he falls asleep.

Of course I won't be asleep for a while yet, but it's so nice to be lying beside him that I really don't mind. Maybe some day soon I'll master the art of gently drifting off to sleep at will. I'm better at it than I used to be, but sometimes it's still quite a struggle.

Anyway,... I really meant to do another awareness entry today, but I got a little bit sidetracked last night, looking through http://www.dmoz.org, also known as the Open Directory Project. Kinda like Yahoo!, but edited by websurfers like you and me. I think it's a neat thing... kinda like linux for us non-hacker-types, and so I was cruising, looking for categories that were in need of editors.

I found one -- Coordinated Web Graphic Sets -- and so I filled out an application and requested it. After that, of course, I started seeing others that needed keepers, like the Cherished Teddies category under Collecting. I figured it would probably be a week or two before I heard back about my application.

Much to my surprise, I had a response this morning when I checked mail, so into editing mode I jumped. After checking up on all the links in my chosen category (a.k.a. "cat"), and adding a few more that I knew of, I submitted a request for the Cherished Teddies cat, expecting a 24 hour wait, and within a couple hours, I had an approval back. So I spent a good few hours adding sites to that category, and doing a little organizing, and when I started getting burned out, Mom came along and said it was time to go run errands.

I had fun doing my new 'job', and I got to see a lot of sites I would have missed otherwise. I think doing the ODP thing is something I could really get into. There are a few other categories I'd like to sign up for and do a little maintenance on as well, but for now I think I'll hold off; I get caught up enough in it as is, and I really should be doing more packing. And research for certain journal entries. *chuckle*

Anyway, I think Jev's pretty well out now, and I'm starting to yawn, so I'm gonna try to get comfy and do a little more reading, until he wakes up enough to say goodnight.
