Excerpts from another letter to a friend

We're doing okay. The stuff we use most often is unpacked, but there are still some boxes sitting around, like my books (we need bookshelves), and some of my collectible stuff and dolls and so on. Once Jev gets his first paycheck later this month, we'll have money to get the shelves, and hopefully we can get things up on the walls before that... they're completely bare at the moment.

Jev thinks we'll probably stay in this apartment for a year or two. Depending on the situation at work, they may eventually want to transfer him up to D.C. again, but that's not anything definite for now. Roanoke is nice, and our apartment is really nice too.

Jev and I saw Phantom Menace a couple weeks ago, and thought it was really good. I bought the book about a week later, and read it in a couple days... there was a little more background about Anakin, but that's about it. And for once, I think I could have read the book first and *not* been disappointed some way by the movie. Not that the book wasn't good -- it was -- but the movie was better. And the book felt kinda choppy at the start, like [Terry] Brooks didn't have a flow going and was fighting with the writing. But maybe that's just me. I haven't read much other TB, so it's hard to say if that's just his style.

Terry Brooks made an appearance at a Barnes & Noble up in Minnesota this past summer, when I was up visiting my friend (the one to whom I wrote this letter), and she was the bigger fan. I mostly roamed around the store, and half-listened in, though it was interesting to hear Brooks talk about being asked to write the novelization of the new movie

Jev and I bought a Sony PlayStation last weekend, and a couple games (baseball for him and Namco museum volume 1 for me (that's all the old arcade games: Pole Position, Pac Man, Galaga). Then we got a coupon for Blockbuster video where you rent one game and get one free, so we rented Spyro the dragon, which is really cute (I want! I want!!) and Intelligent Cube, which is tough (thinking game, which I like, but a little too fast-paced for me... Jev's great at it, of course). They rent for five nights for $4.95, so I've got those until Friday night. I mainly hopped online to see if I could find some hints for Spyro 'cause I'm having a hard time finding something in one of the areas.

Hope you're having a good week! Tell everyone I said hi!

~ Lis
