Happy Dances and Good Intentions

Sorry for missing a day there; I was a little busy finishing up my first cross stitch for the company I'm doing the testing for. It only took me two weeks and a couple extra days to finish a 5 x 7 inch piece. Wouldn't have taken me that long, I think, but I really hated the way the backstitching was done, and so I was slow to finish it. But it's done, and so I can do the Happy Dance ™.

What with the momentum I have from finishing that piece (it's in the mail right now, I'll scan it when I get it back), I decided to try to finish up the hummingbird piece I've been working on for my mom for a few years now. It's actually a small piece, but I just have this thing about finishing things; like the world will end if I do, or something.

I got the bird itself finished up today, and that was the last of the cross stitching, so I started in on the backstitching -- much more to my taste on this piece -- and actually got the hummer entirely BSed, and started in on the flowers. At this rate, he'll be done tomorrow, and I'm really tempted to do the chocolate hoarding dragon from Dragon Dreams, and see if I can finish that one up by my birthday. She's fairly small, I just need to get to the needlework shop and pick up the special flosses she needs.

Anyway, enough stitching babble. Between all the stitching, and an unscheduled two and a half hour nap, I managed to get a load of laundry done, and get myself into the shower and back out again. I'm feeling rather run down, due to PMS I think, so that's an accomplishment. Once Jev calls to say he's on the way home, I'm going to throw a pizza in the oven, and then after we eat, we're supposed to go grocery shopping. I even made a list (yay!). Now I just need to summon up the energy for that.

As for the good intentions... Several months back (like before I even started to pack things for the big move), Mom gave me a handwritten list of all her addresses she sends Christmas cards to, and she wanted me to make up a new list and print it for her. Of course this was probably in February or March, and so I threw it on my pile of "stuff to do later," and it subsequently got packed. It turned up right away when we started unpacking stuff for the computer room, and it's been floating around in here for the past couple months now, waiting to be typed up. Today, I was going to do it.

I had my office suite (StarOffice 5.1) all fired up (I'd even typed up the grocery list and printed it all out), and I was going to do the database thing. Sure, I can do databases!!! I can! I just can't figure out how to do databases in StarOffice! If I could just figure out how to create a record, I'd be headed in the right direction.

I guess I'll have to see if Jev can figure it out for me, or I'll just have to look it up online. I'd be doing that now, but I'm waiting for him to call and say he's finished up at work and on his way home. Too bad he's salaried; an hour overtime at what they pay him would buy lots of floss!
