Perfect Timing

December 4, 1999

I was really feeling down last night (which if you read the last entry, you already know), but trying not to show it. Jev, who had bought me a Christmas present on Monday (I think), and was trying to resist the temptation to spill the beans, finally lost the battle.

We'd run around for dinner and shopping, and as we were getting out of the car to come in to the apartment, he asked me to just sit in my seat and wait for a minute. He rummaged in the trunk, and then came around to where I was with a teddy bear in hand.

It was one of four Cherished Teddies plush bears that I'd seen in Hallmark not too long ago... the hard-to-find blue one that I wanted but thought was too much. He put the bear in my hands, and went around to the trunk again. A moment later he was back with a second bear in the same set... he said he thought one would get lonely all by itself. By that time, I was laughing and shaking my head, with tears running down my cheeks. By time he got to the fourth bear, ("I couldn't leave her there all by herself, could I?"), all the thoughts from earlier were gone, and I realized there's at least one very good reason why I should bother sticking around.

The bears are in their Hallmark bag for now, sitting in the closet until the 25th, but I know they're there, and Jev says he won't be surprised if I visit them while he's gone at work. As the last one went into the bag to go into storage, he brought her out just enough to make one paw wave goodbye... he has a knack for that sort of thing, and he makes it very hard to pass by teddy bears on store shelves, when he makes them come to life in his cute little way.

Today was good... he had suggested going down to Greensboro, to look for something I was wanting from Office Depot, which is strangely lacking around here, but I had already thought of a couple things that I wanted to do (imagine that!), and so I suggested we do Greensboro tomorrow. So instead, we drove into Salem, had BBQ for lunch, and did a little shopping downtown. We blew a bit of money, but came back with yummy things to make in the kitchen, and a real greenery wreath for the front door -- once we get a real wreath hangar. For now, the cats have knocked it down from its makeshift hangar once, and chewed on it a time or two as well.

I don't know if we'll do Greensboro tomorrow, or just try to clean up the apartment. If it's nice, I vote for getting out again. Sure, the apartment needs help, but it will still be here Monday, and this weather might not last long. I think part of my blues are from being cooped up inside during daylight hours, because by time Jev gets home, it's well after dark these days.

Weekends are good. I wish sometimes that they could last all week long, but then the housework would never get done. I'm off to get a tall glass of water and see what I can do with the kitchen. Type to you later.
