Elephants and Ethernet

Well, it's been an interesting day, and it's only a bit after 11 AM!

My bladder woke me twice last night, which is unusual for me, and it seems like the past few days, I've been making more trips to the bathroom than usual. Add to that the episode Tuesday night when I made it to the bathroom *almost* in the nick of time, with very little warning, and it led me to think I might have a urinary tract infection. At the holidays most people might just shrug it off, but since I only have one kidney to start with and I really don't want to cause it any problems, I figured I should go in and get it checked out.

Jev took the morning off, and since neither of us has been sick yet while we were here other than a cold, we looked through the phone book to find a place with urgent care, where I could just walk in. Not a problem, we found a place, and so we headed out the door. About three blocks down the street, I remembered We ordered something from Outpost last night... I hope we get back in time to catch AirEx!

It really it didn't take all that long, if you don't count having to fill out the several forms a new patient is required to sign, etc. The Physician's Assistant (I don't think I ever actually saw a doctor) said things were borderline, but he had the doctor look over my test results and the doc said due to the fact that I have just the one kidney, he wanted me to take a course of antibiotics, just to be on the safe side.

So we waltzed out, prescription in hand, and headed back toward home and our local Kroger. Fifteen minutes later, I had my drugs (and I was amazed that it was under $5, even though there were only six pills), and Jev dropped me off here at home. I had time to stop and go potty (again), get some water and take my pill, and come in here and sit down at the computer when there came a knock on the door. A really loud knock... the cats ran, of course. We hadn't missed AirEx after all, and now I have a shiny new ethernet PC card for the laptop, so I can get back on the network again. Hurray!!!

I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a Christmas present, or just a replacement for the dud USB ethernet adapter, but I'm sure if I ask nicely, Jev will let me open the box now and play. I just fired off an e-mail to him, so maybe I'll get a quick response.

So where do the elephants come in, you ask? I swear they gave me elephant pills... they're HUGE! But taking pills is seldom a problem with me (unless I have a sore throat, of course), and hopefully they will work quickly and I'll stop having to take so many breaks from the keyboard.

When I told Jev about having to go so often, he wondered if we would be able to drive to West Virginia tomorrow to spend Christmas with his parents. Hopefully that won't be a problem... I plan to take the laptop with me and hopefully write an entry or two while we're gone, but we won't have access to our ISP from there, so I probably won't post anything new until Sunday or maybe Monday, depending on how long we stay.

Hope you have a happy holiday; I'll be typing to you soon!

~ Lis
